Does an inspection before buying actually catch the expensive stuff? (15 views)

I'm about to buy a used car privately and everyone keeps telling me to get it inspected first, but I'm sceptical about how much an inspection really catches. A mate bought a car after an inspection and still had the gearbox fail within six months, so it's not like it's a guarantee. I came across www.800sayara.com/ while looking into what these inspections actually involve and it seems like there's more to it than I assumed, but I'd rather hear from people who've had one done. Did your inspection catch something significant, or did it miss something that showed up later? Also, what's the difference between a basic check and a proper full inspection, and is the cheaper one even worth bothering with? I don't want to pay for peace of mind that turns out to be false.
